Humanitarian Relief Project

Rising Above the Flood

In 2024, heavy floods swept through Mathare and other parts of Kenya, destroying homes and leaving families in crisis. CPN stepped in with a rapid response to bring help and hope where it was needed most. From June to September 2024, our Humanitarian Relief Project reached 687 households in the Mabatini community. We focused on young mothers in our Care Groups, their babies under two, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

We delivered food, essential items, and most importantly a sense of safety during a time of fear. In addition, CPN provided cash transfers to help families meet urgent needs and continue cushioning them long after the food aid was finished.

The Human Cost of Climate Change

This photo shows the harsh reality of the 2024 floods in Mathare, where families, especially women and children, struggled through dangerous waters as their homes and belongings were destroyed. It is a clear reminder of how fragile life in informal settlements becomes during disasters.

In response, CPN launched its Humanitarian Relief Project to support the most vulnerable. Young mothers and their children were at the heart of our intervention, receiving food, nutrition support, and other essentials to help them survive the crisis. For us, this work is not only about emergency relief but also about dignity, safety, and hope. We stand with our community in their hardest moments, ensuring no one is left behind.

From floods to hope

When the 2024 floods devastated Mathare, CPN stepped in fast. At Eastleigh Fellowship Centre, we gave young mothers food, essentials, and cash support to help them rebuild. It was more than aid it was a message that they are not alone, and together, we rise stronger.

Upholding Dignity Through Accountability

This photo shows an important part of our humanitarian work the verification process. After a disaster, it is vital to make sure help reaches the people who need it most.

Our team carefully confirmed each beneficiary, focusing on Care Group members, young mothers, their children, and the elderly and disabled in Mathare. This was not just paperwork it was about trust, fairness, and using every resource wisely.

By being thorough, we ensured our aid was timely, fair, and effective. Even in a crisis, this process helped protect dignity and strengthen the community’s trust in our work.
