Winnie Achieng Ajwang

Project Lead – MCH

Winnie Ajwang is a committed Community Health Nurse and experienced Project Manager currently serving as the Project Lead for Maternal and Child Health (MCH) at the Kenya Mennonite Church – Centre for Peace and Nationhood (CPN). With a professional background that spans both clinical and community health, Winnie brings a well-rounded and practical perspective to improving health outcomes in underserved urban settings.

Her clinical experience in primary care settings provided her with a deep understanding of the challenges mothers and young children face in accessing quality healthcare. Transitioning to community-based work, Winnie has dedicated her career to bridging this gap by strengthening grassroots health systems and promoting preventive health through education and empowerment.

At CPN, she has been instrumental in the rollout and scaling of the Care Group model in Mathare, targeting young mothers under 25 and children under two years. She coordinates training for community health promoters, supports behavior change communication strategies, and collaborates closely with the Sub-County Health Department to ensure alignment with national MCH priorities.

Winnie has attended and contributed to several professional development forums, including community health stakeholder forums, behavior change workshops, and mental health integration trainings. She is also trained in Care Group facilitation, integrated maternal nutrition, mental health first aid, and program monitoring and evaluation.

Her leadership has significantly strengthened CPN’s community presence, enhanced inter-agency collaboration, and increased opportunities for project growth and sustainability. Winnie remains passionate about using her dual expertise—both clinical and community—to design people-centered, impactful, and sustainable health programs for vulnerable populations.
